How Long Can I Expect My Furnace to Last?
The answer depends on how often it’s used and how well you take care of it. But on average, the answer is about 15 to 20 years. To reach the higher end of that range, be sure to schedule
routine maintenance once a year. It’ll keep all working parts in good order, improve the furnace’s efficiency, and more.
How Do I Know If It’s Time for a New Furnace?
If your system is on the tail end of those 20 years, you should start to consider a
new installation. Other signs of needing a replacement include frequent repairs, high energy bills, strange noises or odors, and if the system is blowing cold air.
What Are Some Ways I Can Reduce My Heating Costs?
As we mentioned, furnace maintenance is one of the best and most effortless ways for you to keep your energy costs low. You can also try switching your ceiling fan blade to rotate clockwise (it will move warm air around the room and down to you), lower the temperature when you go to sleep, and sealing any gaps in your windows and doors.
When Is the Best Time to Change My Furnace Air Filter?
For optimal airflow and
indoor air quality, we recommend switching out filters once every one to three months. However, you may need to change it more often if you have pets, someone in the house smokes, or if a family member has problems with allergies.
