How Do I Know Whether I Need to Repair or Replace My AC?
Most of the time, a repair is the best—and least expensive—option. However, if a fix is too costly or unsafe to make, we usually recommend a new installation. Other major indicators that you need a new system include old system age (older than 10-15 years) and consistently high energy bills.
Is Your Air Conditioner Maintenance Really Necessary?
Yes! Not only will your system lifespan be longer with routine service, but you can also reduce your energy consumption and prevent costly repairs down the road. It’s a simple service that helps preserve your AC. Try to schedule maintenance every year in the summer for best results.
Are There Other Ways to Save on Energy in the Summer?
Absolutely. Opening your windows for fresh air (and turning off your air conditioner) is a common one. However, if it’s too hot outside to open windows, consider turning down the AC and switching your ceiling fans to rotate counterclockwise to keep cool air flowing. You can also schedule AC maintenance to improve energy efficiency, close curtains during the day to keep out the warm sunlight, and install a programmable thermostat to schedule temperature changes and minimize energy usage.
Will Running My Air Conditioner Help With Humidity?
It will, but you may not want to rely solely on your AC for that. A dehumidifier is a better solution, as it is designed to remove excess moisture in the air. Running a dehumidifier can also help your home feel cooler, meaning you can use it in place of your AC (to a degree) and save on energy usage that way.
What Do I Do About Ice on My Air Conditioner?
If your system has ice on it, call Mueller Heating for help. Ice usually means either the AC is low on refrigerant, a fan inside the system isn’t running properly, or there’s a problem with air flow. Our techs can diagnose the problem and fix it to keep you comfortable all summer long.
